Computer Assisted Audit Tools and Techniques

Your Competitive Advantage

In modern times the use of Computer Assisted Audit Tools and Techniques (CAATTs) is essential. It not only saves time but often enables an Auditor to verify the correctness and completeness of financial systems and processes.

This course focuses on both tools and techniques. It provides theoretical background in the process of applying CAATTs as well as an opportunity to practice performing the various techniques. Excel will be used to implement and demonstrate all the techniques and applications. Demonstrations and, where applicable, exercises will be done in other tools like ACL, Idea, Access, SAS and R, depending on availability.

As this course is practical and hands on, participants need to provide their own laptop or computer with Excel or other software that they want to use. Participants should have a working knowledge of Excel.

Benefit from the Right Topics

  • Eight essential steps to create and implement CAATTs successfully.
  • Seven main techniques used in CAATTs including:  Finding Exceptions, Identifying Anomalies, Applying Benford’s law, Testing for duplicates and behaviour charts.
  • Practical implementation of the techniques in Excel.
  • Demonstration and review of available tools.
  • Case Studies (includes defined CAATTs per significant account).

Tangible Outcomes

  • Ability to recognise, identify and justify the opportunity to implement CAATTs.
  • Immediate ability to implement CAATTs using Excel and other software.
