Aligned Assurance - and the Three Lines of Defence Model
Chris Puschak, PMIIA, CIA, CGAP will provide an explanation of the Aligned Assurance model and how it can be used within the context of internal audit in the public sector, together with how it relates to and can work in conjunction with the three lines of defence model.

Aligned Assurance, sometimes also referred to as Integrated Assurance is an approach that recognises the different assurance providers and seeks to coordinate the assurance effort. Seemingly consistent then, with the Three Lines of Defence model which also acknowledges the different roles of assurance providers, why do we have a different approach?

Aligned Assurance has come from the philosophy that the Three Lines Model establishes different assurance standards at each line, and that the lines are not necessarily working in harmony with each other. This may include duplication, gaps and mis-matched expectations. One way that the profession has sought to overcome this is with a detailed Assurance Map, which may delve deeper into the levels of assurance that each activity provides.

Chris will explain some of the history of the models, the pros and cons of the approaches and conclude with some thought provoking discussion points for participants to take back to their workplace and consider how they are delivering their assurance activities.

Networking and light refreshments from 12, presentation starts at 12.30 with question time to follow.
