Panel Discussion - The Relationship Between the Audit Committee & Internal Audit

Join our four expert panelists Geoff Knuckey AMIIA, Carol Lilley, Donna Moody, and Mark Ridley as they draw from their combined experience in private and public sector audit committees, executive boards, risk management, and governance to discuss the inner workings of the relationship between internal audit teams and audit committees.


Geoff Knuckey AMIIA
Geoff’s career has included 32 years with EY specialising in the areas of financial statements auditing and reporting, internal audit, corporate governance, and risk management. In 2009 Geoff commenced his current full time role as a professional director comprising Board non-executive director roles and Audit and Risk Committee positions in the private and public sectors.
Since January 2010, Geoff has been appointed to a number of private sector boards as either Chair or Non-executive Independent Director. In addition he has positions as Chair or Independent Member of a number of Audit and Risk Committees for Federal and ACT Government agencies. His current appointments in the private sector include roles in financial services, aged care, education and retail buying groups and his public sector clients vary from a range of large central agencies through to smaller service delivery agencies across a variety of sectors.

Carol Lilley
Carol Lilley is an experienced audit committee member and independent board director with a focus on ACT and Commonwealth government. Her background is as an audit partner of PwC in Canberra. She currently has roles as chair or member on the audit committees of several ACT Govt directorates, along with Commonwealth government departments and agencies including Department of Home Affairs, Department of Human Services and PM&C and is the Deputy Chair of the board of Icon Water. 

Donna Moody
Donna is a recently retired senior Commonwealth public servant with a background in finance, governance and change management. Donna was Chief Financial Officer of the Australian Taxation Office for seven years before taking a career change and moving into program and grant management positions in the Department of Social Services and the Department of Health in areas as diverse as indigenous affairs and aged care.
Donna was previously an independent member of the Australian National University Audit Committee, for a year was a member of the DSS audit committee and for 7 years was an observer on the ATO Audit Committee. She is currently an independent member of the Department of Education Audit Committee.

Mark Ridley
Mark Ridley is currently the chair of audit committees for the Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Federal Police, the Clean Energy Regulator, the Australian Financial Security Authority and the Royal Australian Mint.
Mark is also chairman of the finance, risk and audit committee for C02CRC Ltd and a member of the audit and risk committees for the Department of Defence, the Australian National University and the Australian Electoral Commission. He was also former chair of the audit committee for the Department of Human Services. Mark was previously a senior partner with PwC over a period of 20 years in Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
