Congratulations - Award Winners

The SOPAC® 2019 gala dinner on Tuesday 26 March provided the ideal occasion for IIA-Australia president, Mark Harrison PFIIA CIA CRMA to recognise the accomplishments of four worthy award recipients. 

The following GradCertIA awards were presented to winners who excelled out of all the impressive 2018 graduates:

GradCertIA Achievement Award
The GradCertIA Achievement Award acknowledges a student who has shown the greatest improvement over the four modules of their study. This award was proudly sponsored by BHP and presented by Francisco Ajenjo, Vice President Strategy & Development, Internal Audit & Advisory, BHP.

GradCertIA Best Overall Performance Award
The GradCertIA Best Overall Performance Award is awarded to the student who has excelled across all four modules of the GradCertIA throughout their study.  This award was proudly sponsored by Westpac and presented by Tara Laybutt AMIIA, Chief Auditor (Acting), Westpac

Winner: Paula Milne PMIIA GradCertIA, Quality and Business Process Manager, UXC Connect

Next announced were awards for the IIA Global’s hallmark Certified Internal Auditor® CIA® designation.

John Blackman Award and William S Smith Awards
The recipient received both the John Blackman Award which recognises the candidate who has not only completed the CIA but has passed all three parts without any failures at the highest level by an Australian candidate and also the William S Smith Awards for outstanding CIA examination performance. Consideration for the Smith Awards is based on a candidates performance on the core parts of the CIA exam, Parts I, II and III. These awards were presented by Naohiro Mouri CIA, 2018-19 IIA Global Chairman.                                                  

Winner: Paul Townsend, Audit Manager, Credit Union Australia Ltd.

Bob McDonald Award
The Bob McDonald Award is named in honour of the first Australian to hold the position of International Chairman of IIA Inc. and of his outstanding contribution to the profession of internal audit.


The Award is given to an individual in recognition of outstanding service to the internal audit profession in Australia, to the Institute of Internal Auditors - Australia, or to the theory of internal auditor to the practice of internal auditing.

Winner:
Philomena Leung PFIIA, Associate Dean International & Corporate Engagement and Professor of Accounting, Macquarie University.

"I'm very pleased to be the first Chinese Australian to be given this award since its inception in 2006. It's great being able to contribute to such a premier profession that aligns accounting, auditing, risks and governance; one that's at the forefront of innovation and specialisation in assurance and controls.”
