Message from Peter Jones - SOPAC and the COVID-19 coronavirus

by Peter Jones | Mar 02, 2020
As you would be aware from media reports, Australia is in a good position to respond to the outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus from a medical point of view, and our borders are at a heightened state of alert. At this point in time, there have been isolated instances of COVID-19 in Australia and the federal government’s advice is for business to continue as usual.

For these reasons, the IIA-Australia’s SOPAC conference will continue to be conducted from 15-17 March 2020 in Brisbane.

IIA-Australia will monitor the situation daily with advice provided by the Australian Government, Health Authorities and other numerous industry bodies.

We will be undertaking the same steps and precautions as recommended to the wider community to ensure a safe environment at all of our events.  In line with guidance, the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre will put in place comprehensive hygiene measures, including placing hand sanitisers around the venue and regularly sterilising surfaces.

The safety and wellbeing of all SOPAC delegates, presenters, exhibitors, volunteers and employees is of paramount importance and remains our top priority.

We encourage all members and delegates to practice good hygiene and if you have travelled to an affected area and feel unwell I urge you to seek immediate medical advice.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will take all necessary steps, in line with any changes in advice levels, to ensure your health is protected.

I will update you again next week.
