Trish Hyde, CEO, IIA-Australia
2024 has started with the Standard Bang! Rather than the usual, languid Australian January we are used to, at IIA January has been all about the new Global Internal Audit Standards.
One of the critical components of the new Standards is around lifting the profession from ‘conformance’ to ‘performance’. What does this mean? It’s about internal audit taking a strategic, leadership role in organisations. While independence remains a critical pillar, internal auditors need to understand and work collaboratively within other governance and assurance structures, to deliver consistent and reliable insights that drive organisational success.
The launch of the new Standards has been one of the largest initiatives ever undertaken by the IIA. In Australia, we have had more than 1,000 members and guests register to attend our webinars. If you missed them, you can view the recordings here. The link to the update from IIA Global is also available, as well as registration for our Townhall session on Thursday 1 February.
There is much more to come throughout the year. At IIA-Australia, we will help you ensure you are ready for the new Standards with updated tools and resources, as well as revised guidance, education and thought leadership. There are a range of member only resources already available here. We will also be actively engaging with government, regulators, business and community stakeholders, to enhance their understanding of the valuable role of internal audit.
Of course, the most vital information for us comes from you. So if you have any questions, comments or ideas, please write to us at [email protected]. Your feedback will help ensure our support aligns with your needs.
I’m also thrilled to share the program for SOPAC 2024 – in Sydney 3-5 March. As well as delving into the new Standards, we have a stellar line up of guest speakers and lots of opportunities to catch up with friends and colleagues. Early bird rates are available until 31 January, so now is definitely the time to book.
Finally, I would like to wish all our members and supporters a fantastic start to 2024. It will be a transformative year for our profession and we are excited to be partnering with you as we redefine internal audit and the value we deliver to our organisations.
Looking forward to a great 2024.
Best regards
