IIA Excellence Awards

The IIA-Australia Internal Audit Excellence Awards recognise the individuals and teams making an outstanding contribution to the internal audit profession.

The awards celebrate excellence, innovation, leadership and integrity across internal audit, acknowledging those who strengthen governance, improve organisational performance and advance the profession through their work.

Award categories recognise achievements across all career stages and sectors, from emerging professionals and experienced audit leaders to high-performing teams delivering meaningful value within their organisations and the broader profession.

Bob McDonald Award for Excellence

The Bob McDonald Award is the highest honour that can be conferred by IIA-Australia on one of its members.

It is named in honour of the first Australian to hold the position of International Chairperson of IIA Global and recognises his outstanding contribution to the profession of internal audit.

Recognising leadership and professional excellence

Recipients of the Bob McDonald Award are considered true leaders, advocates and champions of good governance for the public good.

First presented in June 2004, the inaugural recipient of the Bob McDonald Award was Frank Bowles CIA FIIA(Aust). Since then, the award has recognised members whose leadership and contribution have strengthened the profession.

Academic and Professional Excellence

IIA-AU GradCertIA Merit Award

Recognising academic and professional excellence, this Merit Award is conferred on graduates of the GradCertIA who have achieved the highest performance across all four modules.

IIA-AU CIA Merit Award

(formerly John Blackman Award)

This Award was previously named the John Blackman Award. John Blackman was the first President of the NSW Chapter of IIA-Australia. Awarded each year, the CIA Merit Award singles out the Internal Auditor who has passed each part of the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA®) on their first attempt within a 12-month period, with the highest average score of the three parts by an Australian candidate.
