Before you begin

Thank you for taking the time to nominate an outstanding internal auditor for the IIA-Australia Internal Auditor of the Year Award 2026.

The award recognises an individual who has delivered a major strategic outcome that contributed to their organisation’s performance while upholding the Standards.

To complete the form, you will need:

  • Your contact details.
  • The nominee’s contact and organisation details.
  • Details of the nominee’s achievements, strategic impact and contribution to internal audit.
  • A nomination statement of up to 750 words.
  • The contact details of one internal and one external referee. A CEO or direct report and Audit and Risk Committee Chair are viewed favourably.

Prize

The shortlisted nominees will receive:

  • Up to 4 complimentary tickets to SOPAC® 2027 gala dinner for colleagues to attend
  • One economy airfare and one night’s accommodation for the CAE (capped value)
  • Public recognition across IIA-Australia media

The Award winner will receive:

  • an engraved plaque and letter of achievement

Eligibility

To be eligible, a nominee must:

  • Be able to demonstrate how the function/team adheres to the Standards in daily practice.
  • Be able to demonstrate significant contribution to their organisation’s performance through its work, such as:
    • Introduced innovative internal audit approaches in their organisation that improved audit outcomes.
    • Increased the visibility and credibility of Internal Audit function with senior management, ARC and/or the Board.
    • Delivered an internal audit plan that aligned with the organisation’s strategy, with reports accepted by Management and the Board.
    • Successfully implemented another initiative not referred to above.
  • Be able to provide the organisation’s endorsement of the achievement.
  • At the time of nomination and judging, the CAE and senior team members of the team are financial members of the IIA-Australia.

People who are ineligible to apply:

  • IIA Global and IIA-Australia Board and Board Committee members at the time of nomination or judging are not eligible.
  • Any person who has directly or indirectly received payment for work performed for IIA-Australia in the 12 months prior to nomination.
