The Young Members of the Institute of Internal Auditors would like to invite
you to our young member event!

This panel discussions will ignite your mind to think about what you want out
of your career and how you can make it happen in your own way by gaining
insights from others’ experiences.
We are excited to have arranged a dynamic group of panelists to share with
you their career journey, lessons learnt along the way, opportunities they have
initiated and other great food for thoughts on careers that they will gladly
pass on to young professionals like yourself. Not only do our panelists have a
board range of experience in assurance services in Australia and globally, but
we also have someone who has founded a very successful business and who
frequently shares effective self-promotion tips on social media.

Panellists:
Karen Brooks
Director of Internal Audit, Newmont
Mining Corporation
Karen has over 20 years of experience in
audit, risk and compliance management, SOX and business process consulting
in public accounting and across various industries. Prior to joining
Newmont in August 2018, Karen led the Internal Audit and
ERM functions for Red Robin and tw telecom in Denver. Karen began
her career in public accounting with Arthur Andersen in Melbourne,
Australia, after graduating from RMIT with a degree in
Accounting. She relocated to Denver in 2000.
Shane Devitt
Principal Consultant, Dumaresq
Creek
Shane is currently the Principal Consultant at Dumaresq Creek Consulting , a
small firm that provides governance, risk and compliance services in WA. Shane
has over 30 years experience delivering governance, internal audit, risk
management, internal controls, information technology and project assurance
services to clients of PricewaterhouseCoopers in Australia, New Zealand and the
USA.
Meaghan Nelson
Manager Audit, Assurance and Risk
Consulting, KPMG
Meaghan is a Manager in KPMG’s Risk Consulting practice. She has
extensive experience providing co-sourced and outsourced Internal Audit
programs, as well as external audit and other advisory services, to a broad
range of leading private and public sector organisations, both in Australia and
globally. As part of her current role at KPMG, Meaghan acts as a Soft
Controls subject matter expert - supporting organisations to identify, monitor,
measure and report on intangible cultural and behaviour influencing factors
("soft controls") which may impact on the organisations ability to achieve its
objectives.
Zion Ong
Director, Alyka
Zion is the Director and Co-founder of Alyka, Perth’s largest in-house
digital agency with a mission to challenge and empower businesses to fulfill
their digital potential. Zion’s three passions include being creative, working
with people and making money. He has been a 40 under 40 winner. Zion started
Alyka in 2006 and with his sheer determination, the business grew at a rapid
pace, doubling every year in revenue and profit. Alyka was recognised as a
3-time Australia Financial Review Fast Starter, acknowledging their rapid growth
of 854% over a 5 year period. Alyka has also won the WA Business News Rising
Start Award and was Telstra Business of the Year finalist.
