IIA-Australia operates a range of public and in-house training programs, education programswebinars, events and conferences to ensure that internal auditors continually improve their technical knowledge and skills.

All of these activities provide Continuing Professional Education (CPE) points based on the number of hours undertaken of approved activity.

SOPAC®

The South Pacific and Asia Conference (SOPAC®) is the institute premier professional development. Conducted annually in March, SOPAC® is the pre-eminent regional conference for professionals working in internal audit, risk management, compliance and governance attracting  over 600 attendees, including chief audit executives, IT audit directors, audit committee members, internal audit managers, internal audit technical staff and consultants working across many industry sectors.

SOPAC® offers delegates a program which will address the key emerging issues for the profession, covering fraud, risk management, governance, information technology, contemporary internal audit methodologies, professional excellence as well as strategic and macro issues that look beyond the profession.

Education

Studying towards an IIA qualification provides a structured pathway of training and development for internal auditors at all levels of experience. Additionally, an IIA professional qualification is recognised as a mark of quality by employers.

As a qualified internal auditor, you will gain professional recognition through the use of designations and the support of the only professional body dedicated to the internal audit profession. We have a range of qualifications aimed at all levels up to Chief Audit Executive, and accelerated pathways available for those with experience and other qualifications.

Our Graduate Certificate in Internal Auditing (GradCertA) is a postgraduate education program fully accredited by the higher education regulatory body in accordance with the Australian Qualifications Framework.

Competency Framework

Increased demands on the profession - particularly where expectations grow as part of best practice corporate governance - have highlighted a need for well-trained internal auditors who understand the particular needs of organisations operating within the Australian business environment and the Australian legal and regulatory framework. To support internal auditors as they progress through their career an Internal Auditor Competency Framework has been developed to guide their learning at each stage of their career.

It has been adapted from existing competency frameworks developed by IIA Global and IIA UK and Ireland and modified with feedback from Australian stakeholders. The competencies outline the critical behaviours required for effective performance as an internal auditor and provide the basis for a broad range of practices including recruitment and selection, reviewing performance, training and development, talent management and succession planning.

The completed framework underpins the suite of learning programs offered by IIA-Australia.
